Australian Greens leader Bob Brown talks to supporters at New Farm Park

Members and supporters were hosted by Andrew Bartlett, candidate for the seat of Brisbane and joined by guests Lead Senate candidate Larissa Waters, Greens leader Bob Brown and Hazara refugee Chaman Shah Nasiri.

Charman shared his experience of coming to Australia as a Hazara refugee from Afghanistan and the appalling conditions he was subjected to under the "Pacific Solution" policies of the former Howard government.

The recent announcement by the Rudd government to freeze applications for asylum from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka is a disappointing reminder that the two major parties are set on putting others through the same ordeal that Chaman experienced.
