Food security touches everyone in Australia - Larissa on 7pm ABC.
On Monday August 15, Senator Waters spoke to ABC's 7pm Project about coal seam gas and farmers' rights in Queensland.
Excerpts of Larissa's comments
On the Greens motives for campaigning with farmers about coal seam gas mining;
We're concerned about the uncertainties here. We don't know what damage they're doing to the underground aquifiers, we don't know if it's really that much cleaner than coal, and we don't know what damage the export of coal seam gas is doing to the Great Barrier Reef, with all of that shipping and dredging. Until we have those answers, we need to go slow.
On the Greens willingness to negotiate the issue with other parties, following Opposition leader Tony Abbott's inconsistent statements about farmer's rights;
This is has got to be beyond politics, this is about the future of how we feed ourselves with good locally grown food. So we'll keep talking to both sides of politics about this and hope that we can focus on outcomes, and get those outcomes, rather than the major parties trying to score political points.Watch the full interview here.
