Qld Greens welcome defection over CSG

The Queensland Greens today welcomed Shane Knuth's defection from the LNP over its pro-coal seam gas position.

'The Queensland Greens have said for some months now that coal seam gas would be a major issue in the state election.  With both the major parties in bed with the industry we welcome other parties and candidates who are prepared to stand up to this industry with us,' Queensland Greens state spokesperson Libby Connors said today.

Ms Connors said that a moratorium on coal seam gas development is essential so that the people of Queensland can decide where and how much csg development for the state is appropriate.

'A Reachtel state poll and a Galaxy national poll show that a majority of Queenslanders want a moratorium.

'Queenslanders do not want to approve the mad rush to develop this industry if it is going to put at risk our water resources, rich farmlands and rural residential areas.'
